When I had my first baby in 2017, I experienced challenges in breastfeeding her. Despite being a GP, I felt unprepared, and relied heavily on people around me to meet my goals. This in turn inspired me to train as a volunteer Peer Supporter, so that I could support fellow breastfeeding families, just as they had supported me.
Helping others to breastfeed ignited a passion within me. I qualified as an IBCLC Lactation Consultant in 2022, and began seeing families privately for breastfeeding help. I saw for myself that complex dyads may require the combination of both expert breastfeeding help, as well as medical input. This motivated me to develop a special interest in this much-needed area of Breastfeeding Medicine.
Using my skills and knowledge as a GP allows me to provide specialist breastfeeding and lactation services. I am uniquely placed to look at breastfeeding through a medical lens.
Fast forward to 2025, and I am now an experienced NHS GP, a University Senior Clinical Lecturer, and my Breastfeeding Medicine service doors have opened.
